ConversationsRadio
Episode 149
Bella Rayne
Musician/Guitarist
Wednesday, July 19, 2023
Mike and returning co-host, bassist Leland Sklar welcomed guitar phenom Bella Rayne to ConversationsRadio Ep.149!
We are thrilled and honored to feature Bella Rayne! She is a self-taught guitar wiz at just 16 who is quickly making a name for herself in the music industry.
Her story begins in the early days of the Covid quarantine. While poking around the family garage, Bella happened upon her mother’s Fender Strat. With no really intention of playing it, she cleaned it up and started playing. Music became Bella’s go to and from there, she blossomed as a musician and taught herself to play.
Bella Rayne has the confidence, poise, and talent of someone far beyond her 16 years and her trademark style
and fashion is making waves on social media.
Bella Rayne lives in a small, coastal town in Northern California where she performs locally, and has been extremely motivated in the studio where she has been working on originals as well. When she’s not busy recording or performing, Bella is an “A+” student and gifted visual artist who volunteers with children's after-school programs at her local community center and even teaches music camps to young children. In addition to continuing with her musical career, her ambitions include attending Berklee College of Music focusing on Guitar Performance and Music Therapy.

About Our Cohost
Leland Sklar
We are thrilled to have legendary bassist Leland Sklar back on ConversationsRadio to cohost episode 149!
Leland is currently on tour with Lyle Lovett but took time to be with us once again. He first joined us in 2019 for episode 60 - winding down after touring with Phil Collins. It wasn't long before he returned to the studio for projects with singer songwriter
Judith Owen and with friends Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Steve Postell and Russ Kunkle - together again as
'The Immediate Family'. With more than 2000 albums to his credit, I can honestly say that somewhere in the world right now, there is a Leland Sklar bassline playing on one of the 25,000 songs he has lent his talents to. A native of Milwaukee, Leland and his family headed West to Southern California early on. He began piano lessons when he was 4 years old and quickly became a prodigy. By junior high, he had all of the intentions of pursuing the piano further. However, his music teacher suggested that he have a go on the string bass because the school was overstocked with fine pianists. Leland grabbed the string instrument and held it close. It just felt right and at that moment Leland Sklar’s trajectory changed.
He continued his music studies at California State University Northridge and soon met James Taylor! Again, a life changing moment. Sklar often credits Taylor for keeping him interested and considers it his big break. Suddenly, Leland Sklar was in demand and found success as a session bassist.
t’s much easier to ask who Leland Sklar has not played with. He can be heard on hit songs from Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Warren Zevon, TOTO, Linda Ronstadt, Helen Reddy, Hall & Oates and more. He has also been called on by tv and film music directors to bring his session skills to a number of productions. Keep your eyes out for
The 'Immediate Family' documentary- currently screening at Film Festival' and be sure and check out Leland's book
