Wednesday, July 14th, 2021
Mike Dowler and cohost Taylor Paige Henderson welcomed
voiceover artist and actress Emma Berman to
ConversationsRadio!
At just 12 years old Emma Berman is on top of the world living the dream as a working actress and voiceover artist. Emma got her start in musical theatre at 8 and quickly embraced the arts in San Francisco appearing in productions of Annie, Gypsy as well
A Christmas Carol at San Francisco’s renowned ‘American Conservatory Theater.’
While getting her feet wet in musical theatre, she launched her voiceover career lending her voice to a number to Leapfrog educational products and continued honing her voiceover skills.
Things began to happen in late 2019 when Emma was asked to audition for an upcoming Pixar animated feature. Working with well known bay area voiceover acting coach Bettina Devin, Emma brushed up on Italian and pronunciation. She did some additional research at her favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant. Emma then recorded the initial audition
on an iPhone.
Pixar liked what they heard and wanted to hear more. The wheels were in motion and Emma Berman went into the studio once again - recording another audition which led to an in-person callback at Pixar in Emeryville, California. Emma went on to book the role and made her feature film debut as the voice
of ‘Giulia’ in Disney Pixar’s Luca and the rest is history. From the start, Emma made the character her own and embraces the similarities between Giulia and herself.
Emma Berman is blessed to be working in entertainment and remains active in the San Francisco theatre community. That being said, it is certain you are going to be hearing more voiceover from Emma. Booking a role in a Disney film is a huge stepping stone and it is exciting to think what will be next.
Acting and voice coach Bettina Devin - bettinadevin.com - who Emma speaks of often and credits for helping her to prepare for and book the role of 'Giulia' sums it up so eloquently:
"Emma is without a doubt one of the most determined, unfailingly positive, uber bright of my students. She has a voracious appetite for learning. Her undeniable and innate charm comes from the fact that all that is wrapped up in the body of a still little girl, open to everything and non-judgmental. The abundant humility is not an act. It’s real!"
